Jean-Paul Herteman[1] is a French aerospace engineer, materials scientist and chief executive. He was CEO of Safran until 23 April 2015,[2][3] the French Aerospace engine & equipment manufacturer and Chairman of both the French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS)[4] and of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe[5](ASD). He is Vice-Chairman of the Conseil général de l'armement[6] (General Council of Armament) chaired by the Minister of Defence.
Biography
Born in 1950, Jean-Paul Herteman was admitted at the École Polytechnique in 1970 (X70). He graduated in 1973 and chose the Corps de l'armement. He graduated from Supaéro in 1975 and began his career at the Centre d'essais aéronautiques de Toulouse (Direction générale de l'armement) in the field of aerospace materialstesting. He entered the Snecma in 1984, and was CEO of Safran from 2007 to 23 April 2015.

Biographie
[modifier | modifier le code]Jean-Paul Herteman est ancien élève de l'École polytechnique (Promotion 1970). À la sortie, il choisit le corps de l'armement et suit en école d'application l'École nationale supérieure de l'aéronautique et de l'espace (SUPAERO), dont il est diplômé en 1975[2].
Il commence sa carrière à la délégation ministérielle pour l'armement en 1975 au Centre d'essais aéronautiques de Toulouse, où il est d'abord ingénieur d’essais, puis chef du département Matériaux.
En 1984, il rejoint la Snecma comme chef des programmes de recherche Matériaux et Procédés. Il est nommé directeur adjoint de la Qualité de Snecma en 1987, puis directeur de la Qualité deux ans plus tard. Il préside à ce titre la commission Qualité du Groupement des industries françaises aéronautiques et spatiales (GIFAS) de 1990 à 1993.

After graduation, Jean-Paul Herteman began his career in Toulouse, France as a scientist testing aerospace materials for the General Delegation for Armaments in Toulouse (Centre d’essais aéronautiques de Toulouse).
