Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele (born August 24, 1977)[2][3] popularly known as Funke Akindele or Jenifa,[4] is a Nigerian filmmaker, actress,[5] director, producer, politician and realtor.[6][7][8] Akindele starred in the sitcomI Need to Know from 1998 to 2002[9] and in 2009, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role,[10] for her role in Jenifa,[11] which brought her to fame. Funke Akindele's journey to stardom started with her character in the United Nations-sponsored sitcom "I Need to Know.". She played the role of a curious secondary school teenager from 1998 to 2002. The sitcom was created to increase awareness of the issues that teenagers face during puberty.

Akindele was born on August 24, 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. Funke is the second of three children (two girls and one boy). Akindele's mother is a Medical Doctor while her father is a retired School Principal.

Funke obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication from the former Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.
