Biography

Anissa Nurdiawati earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Technology from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, in 2018. She has a strong research background in energy system transformation, industrial decarbonization, and sustainability assessment. Following her Ph.D., Dr. Nurdiawati spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. In August 2023, she joined KAUST as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where she continues on advancing sustainable practices in industrial, urban and energy systems, with an emphasis on decarbonization strategies. She employs various methods in her work, including life cycle analysis, GHG inventory calculations,

Anissa Gray was born and raised in western Michigan, where her father pastored a Pentecostal church and her mother was a homemaker. She graduated from Western Michigan University and received her Masters in English from New York University. After graduate school, Anissa went on to work as a print reporter at Reuters in Manhattan, covering global financial news. That was followed by a move to Atlanta and the initiation of her career in broadcast journalism at CNN, where she has held roles as writer, editor, and producer, receiving Emmy and duPont awards for contributions to the network’s coverage of major stories. After more than 20 years as a journalist, Anissa, a lifelong book lover and voracious reader, pursued fiction writing, applying her love of storytelling from the realm of real-life, newsworthy happenings to the events and encounters that shape our lives. Her first novel, The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls, will be published in 2019.

Anissa Helou

Lebanese-born British chef, teacher, and author

Anissa Helou (born 1 February 1952) is a London-based chef, teacher, and author. She specializes in cooking and writing recipes for Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and North African cuisines. Her cookbooks have won numerous awards. She currently lives in London and runs a cooking school, "Anissa's School."[1]

Biography

The daughter of a Syrian father from Mashta al-Helu[2] and a Lebanese mother,[3] Helou left her home in Beirut, Lebanon at the age of 21 to study interior design in London.[4]

Following completion of the Sotheby's Works of Art course,[5] Helou started working for the auction house, becoming their representative for the Middle East. At the age of 24, she opened an Antique shop in Paris. Shortly thereafter, she became a freelance art consultant based in London.[4] Then, between 1978 and 1986, Helou lived in Kuwait acting as an advisor to members of the ruling family, before returning to London in 1986.[3]
