Roma Downey is an Emmy-nominated actress, producer, author, and has been creating inspirational content for twenty-five years. Born in Northern Ireland, she was classically trained in London. For almost a decade, Roma starred in the hit CBS show Touched by an Angel, playing the tenderhearted angel, Monica. Roma is president and CCO of LightWorkers Media—the faith and family division of MGM. With her husband, Mark Burnett, their productions include The Bible series, A.D., Son of God, The Dovekeepers, Woodlawn, Ben-Hur, Resurrection, and the upcoming On a Wing and a Prayer. As part of her 2021 birthday list, Queen Elizabeth bestowed Downey with an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the Arts, Drama, and to the Community in Northern Ireland. She is a longtime supporter of Operation Smile, Compassion International, and received a Sally Award from the Salvation Army for her contribution to entertainment and helping those in need. Roma Downey (born 6 May 1960) is an Irishactress.[1] She played the angel Monica in Touched by an Angel. She also played the Virgin Mary in Son of God in 2014.
Downey was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. She is currently married to the producer Mark Burnett.

Bio: Before starring as Monica in “Touched by an Angel” (1994), Roma Downey was best known to television audiences for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in the mini-series “A Woman Named Jackie” (1991 mini-series). She was born May 6, 1960, raised in Derry City, Northern Ireland, and earned a bachelor’s degree at Brighton Art College in England, UK. She then attended the London Drama Studio, where she starred in productions of many classics, including the plays of Shakespeare, Shaw and Chekhov.
Downey toured the United States with Dublin’s famous Abbey Players in a production of “The Playboy of the Western World” and was nominated for the Helen Hayes Best Actress Award in 1991. Her additional stage credits include the Broadway production of “The Circle” opposite Rex Harrison, and off Broadway productions of “Love’s Labor’s Lost”, “Tamara”, and “Arms and the Man”.
Downey’s additional television credits include starring roles in the films “A Child is Missing” (1995) (TV) and “Borrowed Hearts” (1997 (TV), both on CBS, and “Getting Up and Going Home” (1
