Yeduguri Sandinti Sharmila Reddy (born 17 December 1974), commonly referred to as Y. S. Sharmila, is an Indian politician serving as 24th and current president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee,[1] a unit of Indian National Congress political party. She is the younger sister of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the daughter of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Y. S. Vijayamma.[2][3]

Sharmila made headlines after she took up campaigning on behalf of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) along with her mother Y. S. Vijayamma, in the absence of her elder brother Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy from June 2012 in Andhra Pradesh. She worked as the party convener for the YSRCP, which won 15 of the 18 assembly seats and 1 of the 1 Parliament seats in the by-elections.[4][5]

Controversies• Filed complaint for spreading rumours of her relationship with actor Prabhas
In July 2019, Sharmila registered a complaint with the Commissioner of Hyderabad CP Anjani Kumar against the social media IT cell of Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP). She complained that Telugu Desam Party's IT cell is spreading a hoax of her having an illicit relationship with the Bahubali fame actor Prabhas. While talking with media correspondents about it, she said,
"They have spread rumours that I have an illicit relation with actor Prabhas just before the 2014 elections. I have denied it then itself, and they stopped it after the elections. Now the rumour mill is active again."

Sharmila, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh CM late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), has now decided to take the plunge after talks between her and former YSRCP MP Y V Subba Reddy, her uncle, failed. Sources said Jagan had sent Subba Reddy as his emissary to convince Sharmila to join YSRCP as he felt his influence and image across the state would be affected if his sister joins the fray in the state.

The brother-sister duo parted ways, politically, in July 2021 after Sharmila floated her outfit in Telangana. Both the YSRCP and the YSRTP were formed with the avowed objective to take forward YSR’s legacy and bring back “Rajanna Rajyam” (YSR’s governance).

The YSRTP chief’s entry into Congress is likely to set up the possibility of a brother-sister duel in the upcoming simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state, which might have a bearing on future prospects of Jagan — and that of the grand old party, which has been decimated in the state since its bifurcation in 2014.
