Son of the producer Salvatore Argento, Dario Argento grew up in film studios. Upon his return to Italy, after a field trip to France where he avidly frequented the Cinémathèque française, he launched his career as a film critic. Then, with Bertolucci, he wrote Once Upon a Time in the West, directed by Sergio Leone (1968). In the tradition of giallos – erotic Italian horror films – in 1970 he directed The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, the first chapter of his “animal trilogy”. Three films followed in which he entrusted the lead to his daughter Asia: Trauma (1993), The Stendhal
