Dan andriano bass

Looking at Dan Andriano’s catalog, one might assume that making new music is old hat for the veteran vocalist, songwriter, bassist and primary member of the beloved Chicago punk outfit Alkaline Trio. Decades into his prolific career, though, Andriano is just as in love with the process as he was in those early days of sweaty clubs and cramped vans.

On Andriano’s new Epitaph Records album Dear Darkness, that unceasing passion is evident from the crystalline opening guitar notes of first track “Narcissus, Amateur Classic Narcissist” to the final strums of closer “Into Your Dream (The Sophie Moon).” The solo, self-produced project, which follows his 2015 release (as Dan Andriano in the Emergency Room) Party Adjacent, finds Andriano venturing into deeply personal lyrical territory while also pushing the limits of just what his unclassifiable sound can be.

“Narcissus, Amateur Classic Narcissist,” which turns a critical eye toward the self-absorption fueled by social media, has the driving rhythm section of an Alkaline Trio song, but with rootsy, acoustic flourishes that wi

Dan Andriano

Daniel Michael Andriano (born June 27, 1977) is the bassist and co-vocalist of the punk rock band Alkaline Trio.

Education and early bands:
Andriano is a graduate of St. Edwards High School in Elgin, Illinois. He enrolled in a psychology class and left after he answered a question asking where the word "lunatic" comes from. He returned to the college once only to "get his money," stating that the course was a waste of time because he already knew the material.
In 1993 he and several friends from the Elgin area formed the punk-ska fusion band Slapstick, with Andriano playing bass and contributing backing vocals. He would remain a member through the release of two full-length albums (Lookit! and a self-titled compilation) until the group's breakup in 1996. After the breakup he and two other ex-members of Slapstick formed the band Tuesday, which released an EP, Early Summer, in 1997 and a full-length album, Freewheelin, later that year.

Alkaline Trio:
In late 1997 Andriano was asked by Matt Skiba to join the Alkaline Trio, replacing original bassist Rob Doran. His
