Bukky Karibi-Whyte is the CEO and founder of Robert Taylor Media, one of the premiere communications agencies in Nigeria, an agency which houses Communications Firms Invicta Africa and Bobby Taylor Company as well as three other brands.
Her company represents brands like BROOMFIELD Law, SPAR, Dom Perignon, Cyber Xchange, Henessy, Belvedere, Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and various events and personalities.
While in Lagos for Social Media Week, I dropped by her office to chat about the business scene in Lagos and to get a better idea of what she does.
SB: What inspired you to leave Canada and move your business to Nigeria?
BKW: In Nigeria, you need to be physically present to be relevant. While running the firm in Canada, I would get a lot of emails saying my name kept coming up for PR gigs in Nigeria but noone wanted to hire me because I wasn’t “on ground”.
Eventually, one person took a risk and flew me in. We did a great job and I got paid the equivalent of a years salary where I worked in Canada. I moved back finally in 2009.

A legal icon, author and Professor of Law, The Honourable Justice Adolphus Godwin Karibi-Whyte hails from Abonnema, Rivers State.
His professional career has taken him through the Nigerian and international judicial systems. Appointed Legal Draftsman in the Rivers State Ministry of Justice in 1973, this legal luminary successively attained the ranks of Solicitor-General, in that Ministry and Associate Professor of Law, University of Lagos.
In 1976, he was appointed a Judge of the Federal Revenue Court and thus began an illustrious judicial career, which took him through the Court of Appeal from 1980, and the Supreme Court of Nigeria from 1984, thus making him the second Nigerian after Dr. T.O. Elias, to move directly from academia to the judiciary. During this time he also served as Chairman of several Commissions of Inquiry including the Counterfeit Tribunal and the Inquiry into the Nigerian Agricultural and Co-operative Bank. He was also appointed as Judge, International Criminal Tribunal on November 7, 1993, and Chairman Nigerian Constitutional Conference between 1994/95.

One individual whose sterling qualities in the legal profession have continued to inspire younger generations long after his demise is Justice Adolphus Karibi Whyte. In this report, SUNNY IDACHABA examines the life of this late eminent jurist.
Since independence, Nigeria has never lacked credible persons on the Bench, both locally and internationally. One of such individuals was the late Justice Adolphus Karibi-whyte who was one of the longest serving judges of the Supreme Court for 21 years and later rose to the position of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). In a rare transition, he entered the Bench directly from the University of Lagos where he was already a professor of Law.
On the international scene, he was also the former judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia at The Hague in the Netherlands and was an accomplished/incisive jurist who presided over some of the most contentious international criminal tribunals.
