Over the history of American performance cars, a certain pattern emerges. One technology becomes dominant in racing circles, the aftermarket develops go-fast parts for that technology, and racers become complacent with that technology until a more advanced technology from the OEMs sweeps in and changes the game. At that point, the racers complain that the new technology will destroy their way of life, that nobody will be able to wring more power out of the new technology.

But somebody does, the aftermarket responds and the racers become accustomed to–and later complacent with–the new technology. That is, until a newer technology turns up and starts the whole process over again.

l. JOHN LINGENFELTER, (son of JOHANNES and CATRINA HAGEL LINGENFELTER), was born 24 October 1782 in Montgomery County, N. Y. He brought his family to Clayton in 1838. John died shortly after his arrival in 1838 and it is believed that he was buried in Clayton Village Cemetery.

He married in Montgomery County, N. Y.
ELIDA WINNE, (daughter of CONRAD and JANE SCHUMAKER WINNE), born August, 1789, in Montgomery County, N. Y. After the death of JOHN LINGENFELTER, she married RUFUS SMITH. Elida died 13 (15?) April 1880 in the Town of Orleans, Jefferson County, N. Y. and was buried in Clayton Village Cemetery.
