Biography

Mark Carney is Governor of the Bank of England and Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee, the Financial Policy Committee and the Board of the UK’s Prudential Regulation Authority. His appointment as Governor of the Bank of England was approved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 26 November 2012. The Governor joined the Bank on 1 July 2013.

In addition to his duties as Governor of the Bank of England, he serves as Chairman of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and First Vice-Chair of the European Systemic Risk Board, and is a member of the Group of Thirty and the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum.

Mark Carney was born in Canada in 1965. He received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Harvard University in 1988. He went on to receive a master’s degree in Economics in 1993 and a doctorate in Economics in 1995, both from Oxford University.

Mark Joseph Carney (born March 16, 1965) is a Canadian economist and politician who was the 8th governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the 120th governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020. Additiona

Mark Carney is currently the UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance and Co-Chair for the Glasgow Finance Alliance for Net Zero, a practitioner-led coalition working to increase the financial sector’s ambition on climate change and accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy. Mark is a member of the Arnhold Distinguished Fellowship Program Board within Conservation International.

Mark was previously Governor of the Bank of England (from 2013–2020), and Governor of the Bank of Canada (from 2008–2013). Internationally, Mark was Chair of the Financial Stability Board (from 2011–2018), he chaired the Global Economy Meeting and Economic Consultative Committee of the Bank for International Settlements (from 2018–2020) and was First Vice-Chair of the European Systemic Risk Board (from 2013–2020).

Mark is also an external member of Stripe’s Board, a global technology company building economic infrastructure for the internet.

He is Vice Chair of Brookfield Asset Management and Chair of the Chatham House Panel of Senior Advisers. Mark is a member of the Global Advisory Board
