Iran: Story of Arash the Archer

Many many years ago, the powerful kingdom of Turan and their vicious king Afrasiab, decided to overthrow the Iran’s empire and usurp its lands. So the two kingdoms began a war that went on for 60 years. Many people perished. Sorrow, death and famine came to the kingdoms

“There was a time;
A dark and bitter time.
Our fates dim as the faces of our ill-wishers.
Foes ruling our lives
The battered land was raving;
So many sad stories it had on its tongue.
Life was as dark and cold as rocks;

At last, Iran’s army was defeated in one last battle and forced to do what Turan suggested. Turan’s king and council mockingly, gave Iranians an order. It was determined that somebody should ascend Mount Damavand and from there shoot an arrow towards the east and wherever the arrow lands, that would be the new border between the two countries. Arash, known as the swift arrow, and in modern Persian as Arash Kamangir, was the best archer in the Persian army who volunteered to shoot the arrow. On the bright morning of Tirgan, the first month of summer, Arash stripped naked, faced north, strained his bow as never before, let the arrow fly and rid with
