Manuel was born on 27 March 1986 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer and grew up in a close family environment together with his older brother Marcel. His love of football developed early. Whether on the street, in the garden, in the yard or on the surrounding football pitches – wherever the round leather rolls, Manuel can be found. Or at tennis, his second favourite hobby.
In childhood, many describe him as shy – and even today he is not considered a speaker. He chooses his words carefully. A quality that many who know him appreciate very much.
Manuel loves nature. He makes the most of the mountains, meadows and cycle paths that await him every day at his new home in the south of Germany – whether it’s road cycling, hiking, running, pop tennis or ski touring. In doing so, the native of Gelsenkirchen can switch off from the hustle and bustle of the hectic football business. The ambition, however, remains.
One of the most important anchors: his friends and family, with whom he spends a lot of time. Not least on a “Schafkopf evening” or a boat trip on Lake Tegernsee.

Manuel Peter Neuer (German pronunciation:[ˈmaːnu̯eːlˈnɔʏ.ɐ,-ɛl-]; born 27 March 1986) is a German professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for and captains Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential goalkeepers in the history of the sport,[nb 1] Neuer has been described as a "sweeper-keeper" because of his playing style and speed when rushing off his line to anticipate opponents, going out of the penalty area.[3][4][28] He was named the best goalkeeper of the decade from 2011 to 2020 by IFFHS.[29]
Neuer started his career at Schalke 04 where he won the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Ligapokal, and was appointed club captain in 2010. In 2011, he signed for Bayern Munich and has since won 28 trophies, including eleven Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League titles in 2013 and 2020, both as part of trebles, being the only goalkeeper in history to achieve the European treble twice, additionally winning the second as club captai
