Peter Joseph is an American independent filmmaker and activist. He is best known for the Zeitgeist film series, which he wrote, directed, narrated, scored, and produced. He is also the founder of the related Zeitgeist Movement.[3] Other work by Joseph includes the 2017 book The New Human Rights Movement: Reinventing the Economy to End Oppression.[4]
Career
Joseph was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1979 and attended the University of North Carolina and The New School.[5]
In 2009, he founded The Zeitgeist Movement, a self-described "sustainability advocacy organization". It was originally started as the "activist arm" of an organization called The Venus Project, launched by Jacque Fresco in 1994. In 2011, the two organizations separated.[6] Joseph's work with the movement and the Zeitgeist film trilogy has been the subject of national media attention, including articles in The Visit http://peterjoseph.info/ for his personal page,. Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, the son of a social worker and mail-man, his early life comprised a fairly traditional, lower middle class upbringing. He has commented that his mother’s social work, working with the extreme poor of rural North Carolina, was an inspiration for his activism years later. Joseph has lectured around the world, including the UK, Canada, Germany, America, Brazil & Israel, on the subjects of cultural/social sustainability, the importance of critical thought, and the social role of the arts and scientific literacy. His work has been profiled in the New York Times, Vice, The Huffington Post, The Marker, Free Speech TV, The Young Turks, The Examiner and other outlets. He has participated in multiple TEDx Events and has worked with The Global Summit and USFUCA. He has appeared Peter Joseph is an American born Musician, Filmmaker, Author and Activist; best known worldwide as the creator of the controversial and award winning “Zeitgeist Film Series” and founder of the “The Zeitgeist Movement”, a social sustainability advocacy group which currently operates in over 70 countries. He is also the curator for the Annual Zeitgeist Media Arts Festival and is on the Advisory Board/Steering Committee for "Project-Peace on Earth".
Joseph lectures around the world on the topics of cultural/social sustainability and the importance of critical thought and scientific literacy. He has been featured in the New York Times, The Huffington Post, TEDx and is also a frequent guest/economic critic for Russia Today. Joseph is an active musician and performs around Los Angeles, where he currently resides.
