Moncler

Italian luxury fashion house specializing in outerwear

Moncler S.p.A. is an Italian luxury fashion brand specialized in ready-to-wear outerwear headquartered in Milan, Italy. Since its start as a down jacket boutique, Moncler has expanded to design vests, raincoats, windbreakers, knitwear, leather goods, footwear, fragrance and related accessories.[4][5] Its core branding includes the cockerel, "M" monogram, feltappliqué badge, crossed skis and cartoon duck mascot.

Founded in the Alpine town of Monestier-de-Clermont, France, Moncler quilted jackets were used by cold-weather workers, mountaineers and skiers. Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini bought the near-bankrupt company in 2003 and moved it to Milan, re-launching Moncler as a global purveyor of luxury goods. Its use of private equity financing during the late-2000s and early-2010s saw to its listing on the Milan Stock Exchange in 2013. Moncler reported €2.98 billion in revenue in 2023.[6] The house's collaborations with emerging designers and €1.15 billion-acquisition of Stone Islan

Remo Ruffini

Remo Ruffini is the CEO of Moncler. Born and educated in Italy and the United States, Ruffini began his career working for his father's clothing company Gianfranco Ruffini. He went on to start up his own sportswear brand New England in 1984, and later Ingrose, a women's line. Both were sold in 2000.

In 2003, Ruffini purchased the Moncler Group, which he has since established as a leading luxury group, based around sportswear label Moncler. He is credited with transforming the label which was near bankruptcy. Over ten years, Ruffini placed a focus on Moncler's signature quilted down jackets and introduced strategic partnerships with the likes of Balenciaga, later launching the highly successful Gamme Rouge and Gamme Bleu lines designed by Giambattista Valli and Thom Browne . In 2018, Moncler introduced the Moncler Genius project, which each year invites a selection of designers, such as Pierpaolo Piccioli, Craig Green and Simone Rocha, to create their own interpretations of the down jacket. In 2017, Ruffini was named Entrepreneur of the Year by EY, and

The mountains, and Saint Moritz in particular, always put a big smile on Remo Ruffini’s face.

On this particular occasion, the chairman and chief executive officer of Moncler Group is even more upbeat during an interview that takes place the morning after the successful Moncler Grenoble fashion show in a forest at the Clavadatsch lodge overlooking the tony Swiss resort town, which drew the likes of Anne Hathaway, Willow Smith, Kate Moss and Shaun White, among others.

“It was important to show what Grenoble is about, shine the light on the great quality and style of the product,” he says, beaming. He has been rebooting Grenoble as a high-performance brand, differentiating it from the company’s Moncler Collection and Genius labels, investing in the product offer, distribution and communication, with high ambitions.
