William F. Oldham was born in Bangalore, India on December 15, 1854 to an Irish couple, James and Mary Elizabeth Oldham. His father was a British military officer serving in India. His mother passed away when he was a baby and he was cared for by an ayah, an Indian nurse who would later become part of the family.
Baptised as a Roman Catholic, he was influenced by Protestant teachings in the Anglican schools he attended. His early interactions with the Protestant military chaplain and the headmaster of the Madras Christian College which he attended left an indelible mark on his spiritual life. Oldham honed his skills in apologetics through frequent debates with non-Christians at the Madras Christian College although he claimed he did not yet have a true Christian faith at that time.
Oldham started his career in the London Missionary Society as a headteacher in a small school in Madras. Later, he moved to Bangalore to serve as assistant master in Bishop Cotton’s grammar school. His next job was serving the British government in India as an engineer and surveyor.

Will Oldham (born 24 December 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. His music is often (perhaps inappropriately) placed under the genre of "alternative country". Oldham was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He briefly attended Brown University.
Oldham has recorded under many names other than his own, including Palace, Palace Brothers, Palace Music, Palace Songs, and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. He often plays and records with other musicians, including David Pajo and his brothers Ned and Paul Oldham, but is generally the chief creator of the music. He has also been involved in musical projects and bands such as Box of Chocolates, Amalgamated Sons of Rest, The Anomoanon, The Boxhead Ensemble, Superwolf (with Matt Sweeney), Continental OP (with David Pajo), Current 93 (with David Tibet), and The Silver Jews (with David Berman).
Oldham has said that the Bonnie 'Prince' Billy moniker has many references. These include Bonnie Prince Charlie, an 18th century Jacobite; Billy the Kid, the 19th century American outlaw also known as William Bonney; and th

Methodist missionary and bishop in India, Southeast Asia, and South America
Oldham was born in Bangalore, India, where his father was an English officer in the Indian Regiment. Although he was baptized a Roman Catholic, his earliest religious contacts came from Protestant military chaplains and the headmaster of the Madras Christian College. He was converted and became a Methodist at Poona while attending evangelistic services held by William Taylor in 1873. In 1879, married and living in Bangalore, he committed himself to work as a Methodist missionary and traveled to Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, for training. In 1885 he was sent to Singapore to initiate a Methodist mission. There he found access to the Chinese merchant population through schools; he established what became the first of a large number of Methodist schools in what was then British Malaya and the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), as well as the first Methodist Church in Singapore.
Oldham left Singapore in 1889 because of his ill health. For the next 15 years he
