Usman Jibrin

Nigerian politician and military officer (1942–2011)

Usman Jibrin (1942 – 8 September 2011)[1] was a Nigerian politician and military officer who served as the military governor of North-Central State (present-day Kaduna State) from July 1975 to 1977 during the military regime of General Murtala Mohammed.[2]

Background

Jibrin was born in 1942 in Nasarawa local government of Nasarawa State. He attended Abuja Middle School and Government College Kaduna in the early 1960s. He started work at Radio Television, Kaduna.[3] Jibrin joined the Nigerian Air Force in 1963, retiring in 1978.[4] He received training in Canada as a pilot and an instructor, followed by training and conversion courses in Germany on jet fighters. He was also trained in the Soviet Union as a fighter pilot and instructor, and received staff training in the United Kingdom.[3]

Air force career

Jibrin held commands in most of the Nigerian Air Force bases in the country. During the Nigerian Civil War he mostly flew smaller airplanes

Usman Oyibe Jibrin, CFRGSS AM psc(+) mni LLB PGCPA (born 16 September 1959) is a Nigerian Navyvice admiral and the 21st Chief of the Naval Staff. Prior to his appointment as Chief of the Naval Staff, he was the Chief of Logistics and Director of Training, Defence Headquarters Abuja.[2][3][4]

Early life

Admiral Jibril was born on 16 September 1959 in Okura Olafia, a town in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria.[5]

He attended the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 24th Regular Combatant Course where he graduated as the Best Naval Cadet officer and was commissioned as Sub-lieutenant of the Nigerian Navy on 1 January 1982.[6]

Naval career

He began his naval career as a watch keeping officer on board NNS Damisa and NNS Aradu immediately after he was commissioned as Sub lieutenant. He served in this capacity for 2 years (January 1982 – January 1984). He later served as base intelligence officer, NNS Umalokun for app
